Chloë de Carvalho is a Brazilian director based in Los Angeles.

Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, to a Scottish mother and a Brazilian father. Chloë started out in the arts as a theatre actor, which is where she fell in love with directing and collaborative storytelling. Chloë moved to the UK in her twenties, where she spent a good chunk of time working her way up film sets and eventually attended the London Film School. Earlier this year Chloë was selected as one of the eight participants in the AFI’s prestigious DWW+ program for 2023.

Her short films have screened and been awarded at international festivals (such as São Paulo, Dubrovnik, Paris, Miami, Morelia). Her commercial directing work has been reviewed in Shots Magazine, Campaign Brief Asia, ID magazine and exhibited at the Design Museum in London. Chloë received the Deutsche Bank New Talent Award and attended the Kyoto Filmmaker’s Lab. In 2018 Chloë was awarded the year-long development grant Prodav4 (ANCINE) as a writer/director for her feature project ROSA AO AVESSO. In addition to directing, Chloë has over 12 years’ experience as producer and PM on commercial projects. She is also a (remote) PHD candidate at the University of Edinburgh/Edinburgh College of Art researching the intersections of independent filmmaking and feminist motherhood.

Her latest short AVENTURA, starring an all-child cast, premiered at the 2022 LA Shorts International Film Festival, participated in the Cannes Short Film Corner and won Best Short and Best Short Cinematography at the European Cinematography Awards. She recently directed UP TO US a series of three narrative shorts for a campaign by the UCLA Prison Education program, UCLA Arts and Global Health and Planned Parenthood. Chloë is currently in pre-production for THE LONG WAY HOME produced within the AFI DWW+.
