Chloë de Carvalho is a Brazilian director based in Los Angeles.

Chloë grew up in Rio de Janeiro, where she started in the arts as a theatre actor. Moving to the UK, Chloë spent a good chunk of time working her way up film sets. Her commercial and music video work as a director has participated in various festivals, been reviewed in the magazines Shots, Campaign Brief Asia, ID and exhibited at the Design Museum in London. Chloë’s short films have screened and been awarded at international festivals (such as São Paulo, Dubrovnik, Miami, and Morelia) and her ‘pandemic short’ AVENTURA, starring an all-child cast premiered at the LA Shorts International Film Festival. She was awarded the year-long feature film development grant Prodav4 (by ANCINE, Brazil) and is a ‘24 fellow of the AFI DWW+. where she made THE LONG WAY HOME a heist-thriller experienced through the perspective of an eight-year-old girl.

With her narrative works she is interested in genre films that reinterpret tropes and subvert expectations, often telling stories where the lives of women and children drive the narrative. Attracted to characters stuck in between cultures, Chloë tells stories of outsiders trying to fit in and failing spectacularly. She often draws from her experiences as a mother and an immigrant, to shape her unique perspective as a director and storyteller.
